About Lightbulb Studio

Lightbulb Studio brings together over 40 years of experience across photography, production, and project management to tell stories of unparalleled value.

Brenton Colley — Head Photographer

Brenton is a natural behind the lens after 15 years as a photographer. Over time, he’s carved out a rare ability to create visual momentum from any idea’s humble beginnings. His craft is seamless, bouncing between different concepts and briefs with ease. Some weeks, he’s even seen morphing from photographing prominent political leaders to shooting the brilliance of a rural Aussie landscape. Brenton’s creativity goes beyond the day of the photo shoot, with a knack for image post-production. He’s a perfectionist, who’s been known to spend hours and hours (and hours) colour grading and Photoshopping to strike the right balance on a shot.

In Brenton’s words

My superpower is: walking into a room I’ve never been into and being able to light the space and give people really lovely results

My favourite kind of shoot is: a large shoot with talent and a full crew. I also love a day where I am tested conceptually and technically.

My favourite part about helping people tell their stories: turning people’s words and briefs into an image.

Naomi Colley—Art Director / Head Producer

Naomi is our house maestro, and she’s brilliant at what she does. With a natural-born flair for project management, she’s been the communicative and organisational force behind Lightbulb Studio for over a decade. Leaving no stone unturned, you can find her doing the dirty work behind any project, including scoping requirements, developing shot lists, scheduling and obtaining location permits. When it comes to the day of the photo shoot, Naomi often takes on the role of Art Director and on-site Producer. With a keen eye for details, she uses her creative genius to ensure the final images are perfect.

In Naomi’s words

My superpower is: managing many different balls in the air at once.

My favourite kind of shoot is: A big, busy one, with a full crew. There’s music, chatter, coffee, food, and good vibes.

My favourite part about helping people tell their stories: a lot of the stories we tell are silent ones. Our images help get their story out so others can hear it too. I also love to make people feel seen.

Lydia Downe — Photographer

As a multi-faceted creative, Lydia is no stranger to every layer of telling people’s stories. She has a vast background in a range of different creative disciplines including creative direction and styling. She dips her toes into every part of the business, from production, to marketing, client engagement and of course, photography. She’s had a dynamic photography career that has led her to shoot across the country, from Melbourne, to Brisbane and across to Perth.

Lydia has a firm grasp on balancing creativity with practicality, and she’s known for always thinking out-of-the-box and visualising ten steps ahead. Her dynamic experience, combined with a passion for documenting the world, makes her one-of-a-kind when it comes to telling compelling stories with images.  She’s an integral part of the Lightbulb Studio team.

In Lydia’s words

My superpower is: making people feel comfortable in front of the camera. Particularly when working with younger people and children – they call me the toddler whisperer!

My favourite kind of shoot is: lifestyle shoots with a big team – there’s often a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes, and it’s great to see it come together to form a polished finished product.

My favourite part about helping people tell their stories: I learn so much about so many different aspects of life! Meeting passionate people and hearing all about them and their jobs and passions is a really cool and unique aspect that I don’t think I’d get to experience in many other jobs.
