In 2018 we worked alongside cre8ive to capture a series of striking portraits to be used to highlight the ongoing development of the Australian War Memorial. The photos took inspiration from the stained glass windows that adorn the wall of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The brief was quite simple, a series of studio portraits, but it was crucial that the photos be of high enough standards to be used in large format, and also not age of a 10 year life span.
With these boundaries in mind – testing and refining the lighting became crucial. We refined the lighting over 3 seperate trials, with discussions and brainstorming taking place with the client between each trial. The final result was a series of striking portraits on gelled backgrounds, with subtle hits of gel highlights on the skin. These photos are still being used in 2024 and have withstanded the test of time!
